The Sloan Rangers

Are we Spanish wrestlers or Power Rangers?
That is the question.

Adult Power Ranger costumes were not easy to come by, so we made our costumes this year.
I actually had the kids make paper mache masks with me.
Yes, this all looks like a hobby homemaker project--but its only one day a year.
And no, we saved no money. But it was SUPER fun.

The kids had a blast and Matt and I got to walk around in glorified pajamas all night.
That's not so bad.
The masks were ditched immediately. But look at the joy on this boys face.
CANDY!

This is generally how I feel about Halloween.
Show me the candy!

Actual Halloween

Halloween has come and gone.
My kids woke up this morning with candy hangovers and said,
"I'm so GLAD we had Halloween last night. That's my favorite holiday!"
All of the kids our kids have grown up with. And that we have grown up with.
We are back!
Our family chose a theme again this year! YAY!
And was it easy. Charlie Brown.
Woohoo! Yes, I was Peppermint Patty, who my kids told me was a BOY. I had to keep telling them that she was a girl.
Awesome gender awkwardness in cartoons translating into real life.
Gotta love that.
Every family should do Charlie Brown at least once just for a break from working on costumes so hard.
Or you could just do this theme.
The little notes say, "we are lazy and have no $. So we pooped on your party."
Thank you for that Robin.
Chuck and Buzz were the real American heroes.
I mean, can she get any cuter?
Mrs. Potato Head about found herself in a carseat in my car going home with me last night.

While trick or treating, we ran into grown-up Charlie Brown crew. They were thrilled to see our family.
Lucy DID NOT want to take pictures with strangers. Harumph.
We hope you and yours had a great day.

Now that it's November 1st, you know that means we are simply in a retail deathmarch to Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Crafters-ready, set, go!

Hipster Halloween

We had YL Leadership on Sunday night and it was themed the "Hipster Halloween" which led Matt to wearing skinny jeans, a vested cardigan, golf hat and he shaved his beard into a John Water's skinny mustache. It was a beautiful thing.
Even the kids got in the act.

But Lucy was too hipster to smile.

It was hilarious!
Growing up in Young Life, our kids go to a party pretty much every day.
Quite the life.

Happy Day Before All Saints Day Everyone

Matt and I snuck in an at home date night tonight and watched Young Frankenstein AND The Proposal. Quite opposite movies. Both...enjoyable.

But this scene, you should watch at least once a month. Or whenever you need a laugh in your life.
It gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Halloween, Preview Edition

We had a dry run at Halloween this afternoon.

The irony of all ironies is Lucy wanting to be Dora.

I am slightly more than devastated at not having a "family" costume this year, but you can only fight so many battles on so many fronts.
Maybe next year I'll have more in the tank.

Meet the Flintsloans!

Our family went at the FlintSloan's for Halloween. I sewed all of our costumes out of fleece-which made things REALLY easy since we were all crazy warm and I didn't have to sew hems into anything. It was perfect!
I think that we looked pretty cute too.

We trick or treated with our closest friends in Weaverville, from left to right is Lucy, Asher, Bennett, Josie, Hadley and Knox.
Asher had quite a time running from house to house to "get some more"! He got so much candy that by the end of trick or treating that candy was falling out of the bag about every four feet. But because he was so tired and hungry, he would LOSE it. And if we tried to help him put the candy back or carry the bag for him, he would throw a fit. Ahh, it was lovely.

After we got home, both kids were so hopped up on candy and other goodies, that we had to let them play for an extra hour. -mommy and daddy are very tired from this experience. I am so glad that it only comes around once a year.
