That Hurts My Feelings

Last week Lucy was feeling a little under the weather. Nothing too serious. But she said one time, "my ear hurts"
I made an appointment to be seen the next morning.
But the next morning, no complaints, no fever, she was off and running and we canceled the appointment.
MISTAKE. BIG TIME.

On Monday night, Asher came out of their room saying Lucy was crying.
I went in there, Lucy had thrown up in her sleep.
Have you ever done that? Me neither.

So we kept her home from school yesterday.
But she had no fever and no problems yesterday. In fact, she was rolling all day.
It was a great day.
I made the executive decision that she was well enough to go to YL Club with us last night and we all loaded up and were on our way.

A few minutes down the road, she said this phrase, "I just tasted throw up in my mouth."
All I could say back is, "No you didn't."
"Yes I DID."
A few more minutes go by and she says it AGAIN.
I give her a sip of my Diet Coke to settle her stomach. I mean, we HAVE to get to club.
She burps and then throws up all over my car.

Lucy starts crying. Because throw up is on her "blankie."
Whelp. Guess we are going home.
I do a quick u-turn and start heading home.
Asher starts crying. Because we aren't going to club.

While driving, I remove Lucy's blankie from her lap.
Then she starts crying because she has vomit all over her.
I have NOTHING in my car to assist with clean-up, except for Asher's jacket.
I use his jacket; which makes him start crying HARD.

He tells me, "Stop using my jacket to clean up throw-up. That hurts my feelings!"
At this point I start laughing.
I mean, both kids crying, throw-up all over my car, Young Life club just an hour away (or so) and clearly Lucy has an ear infection but I can't get her to the doctor because she is covered in throw-up, the office is closed and everything is going downhill.

Oooh. The most ironic point of the night? My intro story had to do with how Asher had the throw ups and the hot poops so many times in the first two years of his life. My talk was about the bleeding woman and how Jesus was at a moment of being overwhelmed because he had just been asked to heal someone's sick daughter, the crowds were pushing in on him and then this woman touches the edge of his cloak. Who does he take care of first?

Who do I take care of first? So. Do I go to club? Do I take Lucy to the doctor? Do I stay home even though I am speaking? It was seriously the hardest moment of being a YL leader that I have had as a mom. I was really sad and felt painted into a terrible choices corner.

So, all three of use were crying when Matt called to check in on us.

I call our doctor's office and our doc mercifully calls in a prescription instead of making us go sit in Urgent Care for hours. Matt came home and took care of the kids so I could speak and even so, Lucy cried for hours last night due to the pain within her ear.

Fantastic.
But today? All better.
All hail the power of antibiotics!

Good Days and Bad Days

We've had a couple of really good days with Asher since I last posted. Which is really nice. I think that we may have hit the bottom, which is what I am praying for.

We made it through another Day 4, pictures to follow-trust me on this one-they are cute as they can be.

But in the middle of the day yesterday, Matt had to lay down to take a nap. Uh-oh. There has been the plague going around camp and it visited our room yesterday.

By dinner, Matt had to excuse himself from the all camp sing-along (yes, we do that) and see the doctor. Who asked him, "How's this ear feeling?" Turns out Matt has a sinus infection AND an ear infection. Just like a 4 year old. Amazing.

Somehow, he was able to host the rest of dinner, the carnival, the Opera, AND the dance. After that, he made it through the afterparty and then crashed.

In the middle of this, Lucy started getting very upset over the program and MAD as a hornet at the bad guy threatening to burn down camp. So mad that she was shaking all over and her bottom lip was in full effect.
She was upset through the whole opera and wanted to go the whole time. Afterwards, I put the kids in bed around 10:30pm and when I saw Asher as usual around 7:15am I could see that all was well with him. But Lucy did not wake up until 10:30. AM.

Then she wanted to go back to bed at 2pm for nap. Until 5:30pm. That would be 15 and half hours of sleep TODAY. Then she was running a low grade fever. Awesome.

We are all hoping that this washes away with the 2 inches of rain that we have experienced today.

All Is Well

So we are doing better, but just laying low in case we are still contagious. But Asher is doing laps around the kitchen island, so I guess he is feeling better.
We just took a bunch of pictures on the macbook that I thought would entertain you!

Good News and Bad News

Good News? None of us have strep or the flu. Praise the Lawd.

Bad News?
NKOTB is back.

seriously Donny?
and anyone else familiar with an INSANE rumor when we were kids about Jordan and the contents of his stomach? Just checking if that rumor made it across the ocean from Korea to the states or if that was just an Itaewon Village rumor.

And We're Back! No, not really

Well, we have internet access...so we are back in the able to receive and send emails as well as blog about all of the interesting and amazing things that we are doing! HAHA
We had a crazy Christmas at Matt's parents house. It was really fun, but I will give you the rundown:
8 kids under the age of 5
6-month old twins
4-week old newborn
6 kids on medication for their various ailments
4 kids on antibiotics
1 case of strep throat
2 hospitilizations (Matt's mom on Christmas eve and our newborn nephew Sam with RSV), both very scary...both healthy and fine now.
We didn't spend two nights in a row sleeping the same place for six straight nights.
One cancelled flight to Denver, one rescheduled flight to Denver. 24 hours of trying to rebook the flight in order to land one hour earlier in order to make it to club.
Instead, we drove through blowing snow on the "Kenosha pass" which is one of the coldest, darkest and scariest roads in America. Especially when you are driving in a front wheel drive car with two kids and six hundred pounds of luggage in the back.
But ahh, we made it to Young Life's Trail West. It is our first time here and I have to tell you, I love it. It is truly a GIANT lodge with so much to do and see. Plus, there is about a foot of snow on the ground, a great fire in the fireplace and all the hot chocolate that you can stomach. I can safely say, I would recommend this trip to anyone with kids. Who are over three.
The ski slopes that are nearest by were freezing. I am not lying when I tell you it was 20 below with the windchill by the end of our time there.
Lucy's glove would not stay on and she nearly lost her hand to frostbite by the time we got from the lodge to the car. Not really, but she acted like her hand was about to fall off for a good 45 minutes.

It is beautiful here and we are so happy to be in this lovely place for the next few nights. I will take as many pictures as I can! FYI: It is easier to upload to flickr, so click on my badge in order to see more complete pictography of our travels!

Ow, my BACK!

Sorry for the lack of posts in the past few days. Lucy's fever finally went away this morning; just as I was recovering from throwing up all night last night. I threw up so hard, I strained all of the muscles in my back. I am feeling better today, but dealing with a migraine due to the muscle strain and dehydration. So if you hav emailed, called or sent a package to us and have not heard from me...it is because these last few days have been a lot to handle. Sorry!

Mama's baby is sick

Well Lucy has been running a 102 degree fever since last night. I don't know if she has caught the stomach bug that running through camp right now or if she has something else going on. We hope that she will come out of it today. PRAY! We are finishing up week 1 and 400 new high school students arrive at camp tomorrow. I really hope that Asher doesn't get sick too. He is acting fine and so we are hopeful that he might have dodged a bullet. We are so excited because tomorrow groups from Columbia, SC, Greenville, SC and Western North Carolina all arrive tomorrow. FRIENDS!!! It will be a nice change to see familiar faces all the way out here!

The pictures below are from Banquet night last night. If I could just tell you how many high school girls wanted to take pictures with Asher because he has made them laugh all week long with his dancing in club...It was hilarious. Almost as hilarious as the fact that he flatly refused to take a single picture with any of them.
