Lamb Family Reunion

We had a great time at the beach and the kids did what kids do at the beach:

They swam in the ocean!
They played in the sand!
We took pictures of it!

Then they cried cause sand got in their eyes!
And the ocean is salty and it stings!
And the wind blows!
And the sun shines!
And I'm breathing!
And you're breathing!

Then they wanted to do it all over again after lunch.

Isn't a beach vacation fun?

We should all live at the beach.

I have soulmate types of friends

I was just realizing this week how great my friends are and how well matched-up we are.

My girlfriend Ellen had a birthday on Thursday and we all wanted to help her celebrate the big day. So, she said, "You know what I really want to do? Go to Target. Without kids. With my friends. I just want to wander around the store and not worry about someone falling out of the cart or crying or needing to use the bathroom. Can we go to Target? Is that lame?"

Not lame at all. I wish that I had thought of something like that FOR her!

We are all planning a girls beach trip in a few weekends and we can't wait to get away from Asheville, husbands and children to relax on the beach.

One of my other friends asked me if there were any races that we could run in on Saturday morning. Mind you, not all of the girls going would be taking part. But the fact that just even one of my friends would be interested in running a race while we have three days at the beach away from our kids...that speaks volumes.

And of course, we are know that we have to get to the beach via Trader Joes or Ikea in Atlanta and that we need to be at the beach before 8pm on Thursday so that we can catch Grey's Anatomy.

Amazing.

What I have learned at the beach

Since we have spent a lot of time at the beach already this summer, I have learned several lessons. One of the most important ones? That LOTS of moms have some ugly stretched out and beat up tatoos...and many of them are my age and I feel badly for them, I mean I am sure that it seemed like a great idea at the time!
Who am I kidding? I have a tatoo too, but it is hidden from sight and it has made it through two pregnancies remarkably well. All the same, when you see this video, you have to laugh because you know that a whole generation of women is going to recognize that something that is cute at 20 (like a belly ring) is going to be a MAJOR regret later in life. Proof? Watch this video from SNL:

At the beach...once again

We are at the beach with Matt's family on Pawley's Island, SC...it is great fun because nearly all of the cousins are here (except for the newest additions) and so Asher has a whole group of people to run and play with. Today we went to a little water park that is on the resort and Asher had the time of his life playing in a "submarine" that was pouring water out all over the place into a 1ft. pool of water. He also loved the "lazy river" today. Just wait till you see the pictures...because I forgot my cord for my camera again.

But we will be back in Asheville on Thursday, so until then....SEACREST OUT!

We're back!

We are back from our vacation at the beach! It was a great week and I have uploaded a lot of the pictures to my flickr account and they are all tagged as "beach". If you want to take a look, just click on my flickr ad on the right!
Since we are back, I wanted to share what we learned this week:

1. Try to travel when your kids normally nap. Sounds like a good idea, except if it makes you hit 5pm traffic in Atlanta.

2. Bring a portable DVD player. It is a wonderful invention. Use it and then turn it off. Ours broke on the way home and we had to do the whole six hour drive without it. I almost cried, but then it turned out to be great family time--but believe me when I say, it was work to make it home.

3. The beach is WAY more fun when it is 80 degrees out. But a 20-month old will still love the beach no matter the temperature outside. He will even get naked when it is 55 degrees outside.

4. Always take grandparents with you for at least part of your "family vacation". They will give you a much needed break when you are out of 1) energy and 2) ideas. It is even better to bring both sets of grandparents with you!

5. Bubbles are the best toy ever.

6. All Asher ever needs to have fun is bubbles, ball and rocks to throw.

7. Lucy cutting teeth at the beach is not fun.

8. Paying someone to clean the house once you leave is a wise investment, as is using the wash and fold option at the laundromat so you come home with all clean laundry.

9. It is amazing how many times you have to go the grocery store during seven days at the beach.

10. All you need to redeem a rainy, freezing week at the beach is several hours of 80 degree, sunny weather. It wipes away the crappy days in a matter of minutes.

I will let you fill in the gaps and figure out how our week went! We are so glad to be home and it is even better to return home and still have a whole weekend to enjoy here!

Beach is Lovely

Hello All! We are still down here at the beach. Unfortunately, it is about 55 degrees today, but the weather is expected to improve and hopefully we will be in the high 70's-80's by Tuesday. We have had a wonderful time down here in Florida. Matt's parents joined us last night and my parents will be here this afternoon. I have a lot of great pictures, but of course left the cord at home again. Here is a picture from last year's girls trip here to give you a taste of what we are experiencing:
I had to search for over an hour today to find wireless service, so I doubt that I will be back very often. In any case, things here are great and we are so loving the very badly needed vacation!
