I've been having a few problems with my Macbook this week. I decided to take it upon myself and fix it. Which I did. Awesome. Right?
Except that I ended up accidently deleting every picture that I took in July, August and so far in September because I thought I had backed up my photo library on my external hard drive. I double checked it. Then I deleted my photo library.
Then I went to rebuild it.
It was gone.
Dead and gone.
I am a bit shattered.
Especially because I had some great pictures from last weekend that I never got to send to anyone and they are GONE.
Also, my Amazing Race application with my sister is gone too.
Shellie, I swear...I am about to call you as soon as I get up to tell you.
Shattered.
At least it's only two and half months of photos.
So it could be worse. I guess.
Like Lucy having the flu and infecting the house.
Oh yeah, that happened today too.

Looking down the barrel of a gun
I believe that I might be in the last months/days of my laptop. Today, the dumb thing just locked up on me for hours. I just erased about 150 pictures and the useless Microsoft Works that came preloaded on my computer and now it is running super fast (compared to what had been happening!). Now I don't know what is going to happen.
I am thinking that all I might need to do is buy an external hard drive and off-load all of my thousands of pictures onto the hard drive instead of just erasing everything but my absolute favorite pictures. This laptop has been faithful and worked very hard for the last five years. We have definitely gotten our money's worth out of it, however...I know that its days are limited. A laptop can only last so long. But it sucks to think about making such a huge investment again.
So, I am going to do some research and see if all I really need to do is get an external hard drive and can limp through another year. Or, start researching laptops and see if I can get a steal somewhere.
Also, Matt and I just got back from seeing Arcade Fire at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium...let me just say-I had a blast. Matt, had a harder time. He told me that he's not a big fan of people thinking that they are smart for liking a certain type of music, and he believes that people that like Arcade Fire and Wilco think they are smarter than everyone else. So he was judging US all tonight. For a long time. He had a hard time letting go of it. But by the end, he had to admit that it was a cool show and that he liked the music. I mean, they had nine mics on stage, a church organ, french horns, trumpets, keyboards, xylophones-the WORKS. It was musical mastery at its finest. I really liked it and I got to dance next to Cassia Kessler, which was great fun!

Celebrate Earth Day and clean out your house!
We decided to celebrate Earth Day a day early by cleaning out all of the electronic crap that has been junking up our house for far too long.
Yesterday on the lifehacker.com blog they listed a link to find out where you can recycle your electronics safely and I found one here in Asheville. It is awesome! They clean up computers according to Department of Defense standards. Any computer that can be salvaged they give to a needy organization or school and anything else that can be resold, reused or recycled, they take care of it.
It is great because Matt's work was getting new computers last year and so he needed to get rid of the towers that they had. Unfortunately, he doesn't know a whole lot about computers and so he didn't know if there was sensitive material on the computers. For a long time, these desktop towers were in our garage; which wasn't too bad. But then he decided to clean out our garage but didn't feel comfortable giving them away and you can't really just throw computers into your garbage can because it will leach lead and mercury into the soil. So these two computers once it was determined that they could no longer stay in our garage and couldn't go to the landfill, Matt put them outside in our yard. Which is where they have stayed for the last seven or eight months. That's right months.
But today, we took those computers, an old laptop and an old fax machine and dropped them off at the computer recycling center and they are removed from our lives! Freedom! I love it! Thank you Blue Ridge Recycling!
